Being aware of gender-based discrimination and misinformation is important. Hearing the voices of community members helps remind us of the importance of our actions and of our responsibility to keep learning. Together, let’s make more space for trans, Two-Spirit and non-binary youth to be their true and authentic selves.
Our actions can help trans, Two-Spirit and non-binary youth thrive. Regular life experiences like social activities and going to school safely are important for young people’s wellbeing. Youth may need support being affirmed in the spaces they spend their time. When they can be their full selves in these environments, we see that they can thrive.
Trans, Two-Spirit and non-binary youth may explore and discuss their gender with people around them. Some may take social steps like changing their name, using different pronouns and shifting appearance such as clothing, haircut and makeup. Providing accepting space for this can help youth stay involved in school and other activities in their lives and ensure they have the support they need.
